The food pyramid published by the US government is a general guide for food intake per day. However, the pyramid has been a target of criticism that it is based more on political pressure from American agriculture and food sellers than on nutritional guidelines and scientific research.
Researchers at the University of Michigan have created a new food pyramid based on recent scientific nutrition research. The IM Well Essential Food Pyramid contains only foods that have known health benefits. Foods that have been highly refined and/or contain only unhealthy fats are not included.
